New "Radio Equipment Directive" (RED) Requirements

Radio equipment which intentionally emits and/or receives radio waves for the purpose of radio communication and/or radio-determination, or an electrical or electronic product which must be completed with an accessory, such as antenna, so as to intentionally emit and/or receive radio waves for the purpose of radio communication and/or radio-determination are required to fulfill the essential requirements of the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU from 13 June 2017 when they are made available in the EU markets. Except for equipment concerning public security, defense, national security and products as listed in Annex I of the Directive, manufacturers, importers and retailers in the supply and distribution chain of radio equipment should take appropriate actions to ensure their products supplying to the EU are in conformity with this Directive and to affix the CE marking as demonstration of conformity. One of the conformity assessment procedures may be applied by reference to the harmonized standards as published in the Official Journal of the European Union. Radio equipment which is in conformity with the relevant harmonized standards shall be presumed to be in conformity with the essential requirements of the Directive. For specific radio equipment including AM, FM, DAB, DVB-T/T2 and SAT-Receiver, the following harmonized standards shall be applied from now. * EN 303 340 V1.1.2 for Digital Terrestrial TV Broadcast Receivers * EN 303 345 V1.1.7 for Broadcast Sound Receivers * EN 303 372-2 V1.1.1 for Satellite broadcast reception equipment - Indoor unit STC, a third party testing and certification body with over 50 year experience in the industry, can provide EMC and RED testing, and technical supports service to help you ensure the compliance of your products with the essential requirements. If necessary, conformity assessment can also be done at our EU Notified Body, PKM electronic GmbH (NB 2522) in Germany, to ensure your products comply with the new RED!
