STC Awarded "EcoPartner" of "BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Awards Programme 2021" Again
17 Aug 2022

【Hong Kong, 17 August 2022】The certification presentation ceremony of the "BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Awards Programme 2021" (the Program), organized by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) and sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) (BOCHK), and the 2022 opening ceremony were held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre this afternoon.  Granted the "EcoPartner" award in the services sector, STC (Hong Kong Standards and Testing Centre) and STC (Dongguan) Co. Ltd. were represented by Dr. Franki Lee, Director of Business Development & Compliance, to accept the award certificate.

The Program aims to promote active participation in environmentally conscious practices among the manufacturing and services enterprises in Hong Kong and the Pan-Pearl River Delta region to further reduce environmental footprints in these communities. Enterprises are required to accomplish at least one environmental project, of which there are nine projects in total, to attain any of the awards.  To support environmental protection, STC has accomplished the project "Green Innovation" through a series of measures, such as the adoption of wind energy, establishment of smart energy-saving lighting zone, as well as reusing and recycling paper.  The presentation of the award is a testimony of STC's continued contribution to environmental protection, which is pledged by STC as part of our corporate social responsibility commitment.

Environmental protection has always been a concern for STC, of which the subsidiary Hong Kong Certification Centre (HKCC) has launched Biodegradable Products Certification Scheme (the Scheme) and Hong Kong Eco Mark (Eco Mark) to facilitate consumers' easy identification of qualified "green" products.  The Scheme ensures products in test are biodegradable with testing that includes food packing materials, cups, bowls, stationery, cosmetics, hair care products and more.  Through the certification, consumers are encouraged to use a variety of biodegradable products which can then alleviate the saturation problem of the landfills.  Eco Mark evaluates the process from product design, use of substances and materials through to manufacturing process to confirm that the production conforms with environmentally conscious practices.  The scope of the evaluation covers most of furniture and other consumer goods, consumers are then guaranteed truly “green” products.

Also, STC provides Food Product Safety Testing which examines food contents of heavy metals, pesticide residues, harmful chemicals (e.g. melamine and malachite green), antibiotics, hormones, artificial coloring matter, artificial sweetener, preservatives, micro-organisms and more, ensuring food safety standards are met.  This brings ease to consumers when they do the shopping and buy mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

GMO Testing & DNA Food Testing is another testing that STC offers to examine whether food like soy, corn or tomatoes went through genetic modification.  This also examines whether the food contains allergic substances or animal ingredients, making sure vegetarians are free to choose appropriate vegetarian food.
