Electromagnetic radiation encountered in daily life arises not only from various natural phenomena, such as lightning, but also from different sources of artificial radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation. These include 5G transmission stations located on rooftops, wireless local area networks, shop anti-theft systems, medical equipment and consumer products. Such electromagnetic radiation may have varying degrees of impact on human health.
To alleviate public concerns regarding radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation, the Office of the Communications Authority has established safe exposure limits for frequencies up to 300 GHz, based on guidelines from the International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), to protect workers and the general public from harm caused by non-ionizing radiation.
As Hong Kong's first independent, not-for-profit testing and certification organisation, the Hong Kong Standards and Testing Centre (STC) can conduct professional, accurate, and reliable assessments of electromagnetic radiation levels in your home and workplace following the latest ICNIRP 2020 guidelines and EN 50413 (EU standard).
Two pieces of literature authored by Dr. Brian Chan, Manager of STC's Electrical and Electronic Products Division, were cited by the latest ICNIRP RF EMF Guidelines issued by the WHO's ICNIRP committee in 2020. STC's electromagnetic radiation testing and professional consultancy services are of world-class standards, offering accurate and reliable test results.
