CEN Has Revised Standard for Toy Trampolines for Domestic Use

On 29 October 2025, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) published the standard EN 71-14:2025, "Safety of toys - Part 14: Trampolines for domestic use," which supersedes the current edition, EN 71-14:2018.

Scope

This standard specifies the requirements and test methods for toy trampolines intended for domestic use, including their access devices and enclosures. These trampolines are designed for outdoor and/or indoor use by one person at a time. The scope of this standard excludes trampolines covered by other standards, such as those used as gymnastic equipment (EN 13219:2008), floating inflatable trampolines (EN ISO 25649:2017 series), and trampolines used in public playgrounds or for medical purposes.

Citation in OJEU

Citation of this revised standard in the Official Journal of the European Union is expected shortly for the purposes of the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC.

Substantial Changes

Exemption requirements in EN 71-1	The exemptions from some requirements in EN 71-1 have been deleted as these exemptions have now been transferred to the revised prEN 71-1:2025. This is a structural change only, with no technical consequences.
Pinching and crushing requirements	The requirements related to pinching and crushing hazards have been slightly revised
Warnings	The requirements for warnings, markings and instructions have been updated.
Rationale	There is now clearer guidance on pinching and crushing risks for bystanders, focusing on minimizing access to springs (A2 and A6).
