Korea Proposes to Amend the Safety Standards for Children’s Sunglasses and Spectacle Frame

On 23 September 2025, the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE 산업통상자원부) issued MOTIE Announcement No. 2025-657 to propose amending the Safety Standards for Sunglasses and Spectacle Frame for Children subject to Supplier Conformity Confirmation.

Substantial Changes

• The previous reference standard KS G ISO 24348 “Ophthalmic optics – Spectacle frames – Nickel dissolution and simulated wear test methods for metal parts of spectacle frames” is removed.

• For 4.2 Nickel Elution: Shall follow Appendix 3A: Nickel Elution Test Method instead of KS G ISO 24348.
