Taiwan Revised Inspection Requirements of Bicycles for Young Children

2019-05-02

Bicycles for young children that have a maximum saddle height between 435 mm and 635 mm and are driven by rear wheel are subject to mandatory inspection in Taiwan according to the standards CNS 14976 (promulgated in 2006) and CNS 15503 Section 4.5.1 for phthalate plasticizers.

With effect from 23 February 2019, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) has adopted the recent version of the standard CNS 15503 - General Requirements for Safety of Children's Products, published on 18 October 2018, as one of the inspection standards for bicycles for young children. The changes resulted in the reduction of restricted phthalates from 8 to 6 (DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIDP, and DNOP), by deletion of DMP and DEP, and the total content shall not be higher than 0.1% (wt/wt).
