During the pandemic, children stay home for a long period of time and play with various toys.  Parents may have concerns over the safety of toys and children’s products.  STC’s testing and certification services have covered all-rounded toy safety testing to ensure that the toys meet international toy safety standards. Consumers can therefore rest assured that they make purchases on safe, durable and high quality toys.

STC’s toy safety testing service includes Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Testing, Physical & Mechanical Properties Testing and Phthalates Testing, etc.  The EMC Testing carries out tests on toys’ radiated disturbance and electrostatic discharge, etc.  The Physical & Mechanical Properties Testing performs tests on toys’ load stresses, such as compression, torque and tension tests.  The Phthalates Testing tests the amount of hazardous chemicals in toys, etc.

【Hong Kong, 27 September 2022】Organized by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI), the grand award ceremony of the Industry Cares Recognition Scheme 2022, officiated by Mr. Chris Sun, JP, the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, took place at Hotel ICON in East Tsim Sha Tsui tonight.  Awarded the “Caring Certificate” for three consecutive years, STC (Hong Kong Standards and Testing Centre) is, once again, granted the “3+ Year Caring Certificate” this year for its four-year contribution to the society.

The Industry Cares Recognition Scheme aims to recognize companies that bring good benefits to the society and support more companies to exercise corporate social responsibility.  The “3+ Year Caring Certificate” under the category Enterprise Group for STC is to recognize its achievements in corporate social responsibility last year, which include, but not limited to, participated in the 2021 Community Chest Dress Casual Day, the Love Teeth Day 2021/2022, and the Skip Lunch Day 2022.  The presentation of the award is a testimony of STC’s continued fulfillment of corporate social responsibility, which is a long-term pledge by STC to contribute and repay the society.

Besides joining community activities, STC provides diverse services to promote sustainable development of different industries and the society, along with raising environmental awareness.  For instance, the subsidiary of STC, Hong Kong Certification Centre (HKCC), has launched the Biodegradable Products Certification Scheme (the Scheme) and the Hong Kong Eco Mark (Eco Mark) to facilitate consumers’ easy identification of qualified “green” products.  The Scheme ensures products in test are biodegradable with testing that includes food packing materials, cups, bowls, stationery, cosmetics, hair care products and more.  Through the certification, consumers are encouraged to use a variety of biodegradable products which can then alleviate the saturation problem of the landfills.  The Eco Mark evaluates the process from product design, use of substances and materials through to manufacturing process to confirm that the production conforms with environmentally conscious practices.  The scope of the evaluation covers all furniture and other consumer goods, hence assuring consumers able to purchase truly “green” products.
