[7 June 2025, Hong Kong] Hong Kong's economy is undergoing rapid transformation. The silver economy is one of the sectors receiving increasing attention, bringing focus many relevant daily products, such as healthcare products, food, electronics, etc. The enormous business potential is calling on local businesses and brands to continuously produce high-quality, safe and green products to stay competitive. To promote local quality brands, enhance public awareness of product safety and strengthen support for Brand Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Standards and Testing Centre (STC) and the Hong Kong Certification Centre (HKCC) jointly hosted the 2025 Certificate Award Ceremony and Product Safety Carnival, which officially opened on Friday, 6 June, at Citywalk Phase 1 in Tsuen Wan. The ceremony attracted over 400 representatives from businesses, government officials and the public, creating a vibrant and star-studded atmosphere.
This year, STC was honoured to invite Mr. CHEUK Wing-hing, GBS, JP, Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration, as the guest of honour at the ceremony. Mr. CHEUK stated in his speech, "STC has kept pace with changing domestic and international markets over the past decades, offering diversified testing and certification services tailored for market needs. As an independent third-party gatekeeper of product and service quality standards, STC has helped businesses, large and small, expand into various markets. With Hong Kong as its base, STC has established branches and offices in multiple locations, promoting the advantages of Hong Kong testing and certification globally and reinforcing Hong Kong’s story." He further emphasised that independent third-party testing and certification organisations play a key role in setting quality standards for products, helping drive local elderly-care product certification to enhance credibility and attractiveness. By strengthening protection for silver consumers, these efforts align with government policies to boost the silver economy, supporting the broader promotion of "quality assurance of silver products". Following his speech, Mr. CHEUK presented certificates to the 44 companies that achieved HKCC certification this year and interacted with exhibiting companies to understand more about the current retail market trends.
As Hong Kong’s first non-profit testing, certification and inspection organisation, STC has gained international recognition across countries, earning a strong reputation in the industry. It has become a trusted partner for businesses seeking entry into mainland China and global markets. Meanwhile, HKCC has rigorously upheld local product quality over the years, ensuring that tested and certified items meet the highest safety and quality standards before being introduced in Hong Kong, while also facilitating their expansion internationally. Hong Kong has a well-established and reliable accreditation system, recognised by over 110 economies worldwide. Through certification programmes such as the Hong Kong Safety Mark, “STC Certified” Mark, Hong Kong Excellent Service, Made in Hong Kong and more, STC and HKCC strictly safeguard household product and food safety. Additionally, in alignment with China’s high-quality development strategy, STC has gradually expanded its laboratories and offices into key economic regions across the country. STC Chairman, Mr. TonMr. Tom TONG, JP, shared in his speech, "Over the past year, STC has collaborated closely with multiple provincial and city governments in mainland China, assisting businesses in using our certification services to launch their products in the Greater Bay Area and various international markets."
